I like to
play around and write some prologue ideas for horror/thriller stories...here is
one of my most recent...
Prologue
Why had she insisted on coming alone
this time? She recounted her determined speech to her parents about needing
space, quiet, and the freedom to write in peace. Perhaps the beautiful scenery
at her families camp would inspire her and break free of her demoralizing
writers block. (Branches snap)
Clasping her hand against her mouth she bit her tongue to cut back her scream. She
strained hard to hear his footsteps following. Frantically she darted through
the trees wary that her own steps crunching on the twigs and fallen leaves
would alert him to her location. Branches swiped at her face smudged with
tears, sweat and blood. Her tongue caressed the open wound at the side of her
mouth and she tasted her own bitter blood. Wincing at the sting she trudged on
through the darkness with outreached arms. Without the moonlight she was
blinded by the eerie darkness and no longer knew if she was on the right path.
The sound of her own footsteps made her jump as she tripped over the unseen
roots. Even nature had turned against
her tonight. She stumbled and steadied herself when she hit a solid obstruction
in her path. Swearing under her breath, Emily's heart surged when she felt the
familiar texture of the log cabin under her bruised hands. Here it was! Hope
soared through her harmonizing with a abrupt charge of adrenaline. Her cell
phone was inside, perhaps now her only chance at survival. Holding in her
breath she forced her gaze out into the traitorous trees that once canopied her
most treasured summer vacations. It was futile as she couldn't see out in that
darkness. She listened for any sounds however it was stillest of nights. Even
the nocturnal creatures seemed to loath and fear the presence in the woods with
them, with her.
